Started the day in Iron Mountain, then Iron River, then Ironwood!!  Confusing...  We stopped off at Piers Gorge - fabulous, lovely falls with that lovely tanin-colored water (see pictures).  Then the Cornish Mine Museum - largest mechanical pump in the world....!  Every turn of the road is so magnificent, with the colors right at peak.  I couldn't even read, because I never tire of looking at those trees.  We stopped in Ashland, WI, and had our lunch looking at Lake Superior and the gargantuan Ashland Soo Line Ore dock, the largest of its kind in the world....I don't make this up, folks - that's what the travel book said!  Tonight, we're in a camping place just east of Superior, the last town in Wisconsin.  Perfect day - now sitting here having some smoked white fish, Pinconning cheese, and wine from a vinyard we found in the UP.  Wow, do we live in a beautiful state, country, world!!  Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!

Got a late start this morning, and we're just in Escanaba at 4:00 pm.  Lovely lovely drive along Lake Michigan.  Pictures of the Straits of Mackinaw...or is it Mackinac?  Climbed a tower in St. Ignace for great views of the forests, the Strait, and the bridge.  Went to a winery, tasted a few, bought just 2 bottles.  We'll likely be out of Michigan tomorrow afternoon.  Here's just a sampling of the pictures I've been snapping today!

Day one - we're off!

Left Plymouth, Mi at noon today, Monday, 9/27.  Beautiful Fall day in Michigan.  We loved the colors - nothing out of the ordinary today, but we'll share some shots of our 'rig', with truck/camper, bikes, and pulling my car behind, as well as some shots of the colors.  Tonight, we're parked right on the Straits of Mackinaw, but can't see anything!  Tomorrow morning, we should get some nice shots.

Planned Departure Date

Monday, the 27th, we're taking off - will have a 'before' picture to post as we're leaving.....in a truck, with a camper on top, with bicycles behind the truck, and pulling a car dolly with Gena's car!!  "On the again, like a band of gypsies we go down the highway.....we're the best of friends....and so on!
